I have this membership card; now what? Where can I use it? What is it good for?
When you become an HEAV member, one of the most popular member benefits you receive is a printed Teacher ID card mailed to you.
If you’re new to homeschooling, you might ask, “Why do I need this, and what is this good for?”
Your HEAV Teacher ID Card Is Valuable!
With your ID card, you can take advantage of a slew of discounts offered at various stores on supplies needed for your homeschool and more. Places like Michaels and Apple, clothing stores like Loft, and points programs at Staples all offer fantastic discounts.
Recently, I purchased an office chair from Staples and received $10 off with my HEAV Teacher ID Card! Most places that accept government-issued teacher ID Cards will accept the HEAV teacher ID card. On the website, we have an entire list of ID card benefits.
I remember when I first received my card after joining this homeschool community. Having previously been a public school teacher, I must admit I was a little lost in this new realm. I didn’t quite know what my new role in education would be. It’s sad to admit that I wondered what people would think when I said, “I used to be a teacher.”
While my identity is not wrapped up in a title, making that transition was a little challenging. The small gesture of receiving the HEAV card was just the reminder I needed to let me know that I am still a teacher! I matter to my students, those precious little people God has blessed me and my husband with.
It’s not easy to feel like you are giving up something to come home and educate your family. While we all may know in theory what our purpose and responsibility to our children are, putting that into practice can be a change—like going against cultural norms. But your work matters, and I dare say this is your most important role ever. We have the documentation to go along with that!
So yes, the discounts are wonderful. I mean, who wouldn’t want to save on items they already plan to purchase or places they plan to go?
