Weather.gov offers some great resources for weather-watching, including free online courses through their “Weather 101” series. The one-hour classes are for all ages and include topics like rip tides, hurricanes, and global circulations like El Niño and La Niña.

Did you know you can build your own weather watching equipment from simple items already in your home. Try out this DIY barometer made with a glass and a recycled plastic bottle and learn how changes in the air pressure can help predict the weather.
This printable weather chart geared toward preschoolers and kindergarteners is a great way to include littles in the lesson and introduce them to the concept and practice of weather tracking.
Get involved! Community Collaborative Rain, Hail, and Snow network, or CoCoRaHS was established to obtain a better understanding of local weather and climate patterns by taking daily weather observations using a simple low-cost rain gauge. It began in 1998 with a few observers along Colorado’s Front Range, and has grown into a network of over 26,000 active observers in the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and the Bahamas.
