Children's Program

This year’s Children’s Program explores the fruit of the Spirit!

Due government restrictions, the 37th Annual Virginia Homeschool Convention has been canceled.
This difficult decision was not made lightly, but with drastic, new restrictions in place, there is simply no other choice.

Read more information here.
If you’re registered for the convention, please check your email for your refund information.

Your children will follow along with two special agents as they try to find the culprits for the theft of the “Golden Peach Tree.” Along the way, they will memorize and learn to recognize the Fruit of the Spirit. Any children who join the hunt will participate in praise and worship, memorize a passage of scripture, and of course, have the chance to let out their energy by playing several active games.

NEW! Children’s Program is offered ALL THREE DAYS of the convention.

Thursday: 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Friday: 7:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
Saturday: 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Children’s Program FAQ

We enlist of the help of many volunteers and team leaders to engage the children with many fun, enjoyable group activities. Each child is assigned to a team leader and one or two assistants who together are responsible for a group of up to 21 children who will remain together throughout their stay in the Children’s Program. They will at times join other groups for fast-paced transitions to organized games, singing, and crafts.

Yes! Many of our volunteers come back year after year to serve in the Children’s Program! All of our volunteers provide a reference that is carefully reviewed, and any volunteers aged 18 and over undergo a background check.

Yes, all children in a family are placed in the same group at the convention unless the parents specifically request that they be placed in separate groups. Please send place requests to childrensprogram@heav.org by June 1, 2020.

We make every effort to accommodate special placement requests. Please send requests to childrensprogram@heav.org by June 1, 2020.

Only parents are permitted to drop off and pick up children. If you and your spouse have a scheduling conflict due to another convention event, special arrangements may be made for another authorized adult to pick up your child. Arrangements must be made onsite with the Children’s Program coordinator. Under no circumstances will a minor be permitted to pick up children from the program.

No food is served or allowed in the Children’s Program; this includes candy and any drinks other than water. If your child must eat during program hours, you may sign him out from the program room as needed to get food.

If your child has a severe allergy, please make arrangements for his care in writing with the Children’s Program coordinator.

We welcome all children! Unfortunately, we do not have the volunteer staff to care for a child who requires personal care, and our staff members are prohibited from entering the bathroom with any child. If possible, a nurse will be available in the Children’s Program at all times and a paramedic is available at the Convention Center. If you have a child with special needs or health concerns who is registered in the Children’s Program, please e-mail specialbuddies@heav.org for information on our Special Buddies Program.
