Virginia Homeschool Chess Camps
Beginner chess player? Intermediate player? Whatever your skill level, this is a great chance to get prepped for the annual chess championships on Friday! You’ll learn so much from these chess classes, presented by Virginia Chess Federation on Thursday.
Beginner Chess Camp
In this course, suitable for ages 7 to 19, students will learn the basics of the game of chess including terminology, board orientation and setup, piece movements including castling and en passant, basic defense and calculations, opening principles, basic checkmate patterns, and a brief introduction to tactics.

Intermediate Chess Camp
Suitable for students ages 7 to 19 who are proficient in all material covered in the crash course, this mini-camp will include instruction on tactics, endgame techniques, and an introduction to strategic concepts, particularly positional assessment and pawn structure.
