Parents have expressed concern regarding correspondence received from the district promoting its virtual, public school option. School divisions market these programs to homeschool parents to persuade them to return to the government educational system. Parents are not required to respond to these communications. It is helpful to understand that many districts are reviewing budgets at this time, and school districts receive full funding (average $14,386) for each student who attends their virtual program. Chesapeake reported 2141 homeschooled students to the VDOE for the 2022-23 public school year.
