HEAV contacted Buena Vista after receiving concerns regarding the accuracy of information provided to parents over the phone related to the homeschool law.

Concerns included:

Notice of Intent vs. “approval”, the immediate withdrawal process, home educating with a GED, the NOI filing options, and evidence of progress. HEAV learned that much of the inaccurate information was provided by an individual who had not been trained as a homeschool liaison under the superintendent.

HEAV had a positive and productive conversation with Buena Vista regarding these reports, and we are pleased to share that internal processes will be developed to ensure parents are receiving accurate information from a trained, homeschool liaison. The best course, however, is for parents to check HEAV’s website for guidance on the law and parent’s compliance responsibilities.
