Homeschool Hangout
I believe if you ask anyone who began their homeschool journey more than 10 years ago, they would tell you that things in this community look a little different now. Before, homeschool families may have felt in the minority. The only time you would meet up with another homeschool family was at a church event or a yearly convention. With the immense growth of homeschooling, along with increasingly popular online spaces, homeschoolers can connect with like-minded individuals and families everywhere. Social media sites like Facebook, Instagram, Pinterest, and X give us desired connections to people who understand some of the ups and downs that only those actively involved in this life would know.
While these connections are great, I believe there still has not been any replacement for face-to-face human interaction. There is just something about looking a person in the eye as you converse, having instant conversation instead of waiting for a messaged reply.
At HEAV, we understand that many members of these online homeschool groups—even though some are regional or city specific—have not had the opportunity to engage. This year at the annual homeschool convention, HEAV has created a space to foster these connections. The Homeschool Hangout is a specific space in the convention center intentionally designed for members to meet up with families, individuals, and groups that are mainly online.

Wouldn’t it be great to finally get to speak with people you have only had the opportunity to chat with or message? Now you have the chance to meet up with families from your area to experience the convention together, building lasting memories and lifelong relationships. Homeschool is better lived out in community. Difficult times are better handled when you know you are not alone. As homeschooling continues to grow, we want to make sure to provide the space for connection.
If you would like to meet up with other homeschoolers in your area, plan a time, post it, and anticipate the connections!
If you are an online group leader, consider planning a meet-up time for your group. The Homeschool Hangout is going to be such a fun space! There will be props for pictures (we are all about memory-making!) and tables to sit, chat, and plan out your convention weekend together. Here at HEAV, we are excited to have this space created for you, just to make your convention weekend more meaningful.
We were made for community and connection. With the growth of homeschooling, we want to make sure we keep ideals like this intact.
