HEAV received a call from a concerned, homeschool parent whose attendance at an IEP meeting was being persistently requested by representatives of the student’s previous public school. On several occasions, the parents indicated they now homeschool and are not required to attend a public school meeting. However, due to a delay in processing the family’s NOI, no inquiry of the student’s status, and a general lack of understanding of the law, school representatives continued to insist on the parent’s attendance at the meeting. After contacting HEAV to report the concern, the parents stood firm. Soon, school representatives stopped pursuing this arbitrary action.
