Building Your Homeschool Community

One of the most essential aspects of your homeschool journey is building homeschool connections and a network of support. Whether you are a newbie in homeschooling or a seasoned veteran, you can benefit significantly from being a part of a homeschool community. Check out this Homeschool Living for five of the best ways to build your homeschool network.

1. Join a Homeschool Group
A great way to start building your homeschool community is to join a local homeschool group to connect with other homeschoolers in your region or area. They can be found online or offline, and they act as a platform for sharing experiences, offering support, and planning activities and events. By joining a homeschool group, you get to form homeschool connections and establish meaningful relationships. You and your fellow homeschooling families can all benefit from the knowledge and experiences that you share with each other.

2. Attend Homeschool Conventions and Events
Attending homeschool conventions and events is another excellent way to build your homeschool network. HEAV’s annual homeschool convention provides a wealth of information and resources that you can benefit from as a homeschooler, but you don’t need to wait until next June to connect with other homeschoolers and make your homeschooling journey more rewarding. Teaching your children and helping them be all they can be—a complex, amazing journey filled with joy and love–is not meant to be a lonely path. Check out Homeschool Day events, HEAV’s new mentor programs, and more, and build strength with your Virginia homeschool connections.

3. Volunteer
An often-overlooked way to build your homeschool network is through volunteering. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to meet new people and make new connections. It also helps you establish your presence in the homeschool community and make valuable contributions. By volunteering, you can work with other homeschoolers on projects that are important to you. This can help you develop meaningful relationships with other homeschoolers and foster a sense of community.

4. Participate in Sports and Classes
Participating in sports groups and extracurricular classes is one of the best ways to build your homeschool network. Homeschoolers can participate in a wide variety of competitive sports–football, basketball, volleyball, and more are available across the Virginia commonwealth. Joining local theater groups, art classes, community orchestras and choruses, and other extracurriculars can offer students an opportunity to connect with others who share a passion for a particular subject or topic.

5. Join Online Homeschool Communities
In today’s digital age, online communities have become a popular way for people to connect, and homeschooling is no exception. While online groups can’t take the place of in-person meetings, lessons, and field trips, they are another great way to share information, advice, and encouragement. You can join these communities to connect with other homeschoolers who share your interests and values. HEAV’s Homeschooling in Virginia Facebook group offers resources that can help you navigate homeschooling challenges and offer support when you need it. Joining the group gives you access to a network of people who understand your homeschooling journey and can provide support when you need it.
