A Homeschool Mom’s Story from Fear to Power

The Call to Homeschool

Even though we have now graduated our last homeschooled child, HEAV will forever be near and dear to my heart.

I accepted the “call” to home school many years ago while attending the convention. I came afraid. Well, that is probably an understatement–I came petrified!

I was unsure of my abilities and simply overwhelmed. The UCS and Exhibit Hall were mammoth. I literally left in tears on Friday; I drove back to my hotel sobbing.

I didn’t have a little wheeled cart for my books, a notebook with color-coded columns to select curriculum, or even the much-recommended comfortable shoes.

Through swollen eyes, I picked up my In Touch Devotional from Dr. Charles Stanley. The devotion for that very day spoke to our feelings of inadequacy. I could have flung the magazine across the room!

That day, I was reminded that I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me; His power is perfected in my weakness; and we will succeed in our homeschooling journey, not by might, nor by power, but by His spirit. I returned on Saturday with a resolve that we would homeschool our children to the glory of God!

And through His grace, we have.

The importance and necessity of HEAV cannot be overstated. When challenges and distractions arise as HEAV continues to stand on the front line as advocates for homeschooling families, may Nehemiah’s declaration in Chapter 6 come to mind, “I am doing a doing a great work and I cannot come down.”

Please help keep #HomeschoolStrong in Virginia! Make a tax-deductible donation on #GivingTuesday.

It’s never too late to make a financial give to HEAV. Without the generous support of our members and donors, we would not have made it through these last turbulent months.

In prayer and thanksgiving, we look forward to seeing you at the 2024 Annual Virginia Homeschool Convention, Freedom in Homeschooling!
