Science in the Kitchen: Dutch Baby with Apple-Cinnamon Filling
Kitchen science can be fun and delicious! Ready to explore just how crave-worthy science can be? Then let’s head to the kitchen!
In this class, students will prepare a Dutch Baby with Apple-Cinnamon Filling. Also known as a German Pancake, this sweet version of a Yorkshire Pudding starts off as a simple batter that rises and puffs dramatically in the oven. It comes out golden and fluffy, then freshly prepared apple filling is spooned into the center for a dramatic presentation.
As we cook together, essential culinary techniques will be explained and demonstrated. Along the way, we’ll explore the role of steam as a physical leavener and delve into some tasty tidbits of apple science. We’ll also discuss the characteristics of common apple varieties and the best uses for each one.
As long as an adult is on hand to assist and supervise as needed, students of all ages can participate in this live virtual class.
Class is August 6 at 10:30 a.m. (Eastern)
