Grade Level Assessment

Q. My daughter did not do well in a private school last year. I’m having her tutored this summer to catch up, but I don’t know what grade she should be in when we start to homeschool in the fall.

A. I understand your concern. It sounds like you have a good plan in place to remediate your daughter during the summer. It’s possible to complete the necessary subjects with focus and hard work. Concentrate on language arts and mathematics.

At the end of your planned tutoring sessions, you can assess her academic level by having her take a basic skills/Essential Learning Objectives (ELO) test for grade placement. You can find a link here and complete the test online:  Basic Skills Assessment and Educational Services. This test is only for your use.

Based on the results of the skills assessment, you can then determine where to begin when you homeschool next year. Whether she should repeat a grade or move to the next level is your decision. Please call 804-278-9200 if I can help with any other questions.
