HEAV Stands with You…

…as you stand up to school officials.

A parent in a Virginia county submitted a notice of intent, only to be told it was “declined.” Because she’d attended the county school in early high school, she pressed them for a reason and was told that her own high school grades were “unacceptable,” to allow her to homeschool her own children.

Perplexed, she contacted HEAV. We were able to intervene, explaining that her high school diploma was all that was required – searching her academic record went far beyond what the law permits.

She is successfully homeschooling her children today.

Let’s continue to stand together. Support HEAV!

…when officials overreach.

When school districts, short-staffed and reeling from school closures, inadvertently created a 1985-esque assault on new homeschool families, HEAV empowered brave parents with accurate information—and school superintendents, social workers, and truant officers were still contacted to resolve every issue.

Every day, phone calls come from distraught parents, seeking help with unexpected visits by district truancy officers, immunizations record requirements, homeschool “approval” delays, and more.

Through the efforts of your government affairs and school board monitor teams, HEAV works to protect your homeschool freedom, one district at a time.

Last year, your HEAV teams monitored more than 1,994 school board agendas and minutes and worked to resolve over 258 district issues.

Thanks to your support, HEAV was there.

…to find a program that meets your child’s individual needs.

When schools across Virginia closed, many parents found day-long virtual school unsuitable for their kids. One parent called our office near tears, as her frustrated child was refusing to attend school. HEAV clarified the difference between a public virtual school at home and a parent-directed homeschool (even one that is online)–and helped her find individualized curriculum that fit her child’s abilities.

Thanks to you, she–and hundreds of parents like her–are discovering the joy of homeschooling.

“I am very thankful that we have such a great organization here in HEAV. When we were homeschooling in Puerto Rico, we had no support at all. It is nice to know I can access information and support from a group of dedicated people who care deeply that our homeschool community succeeds!”
