Meet Your Virginia Legislator
You Are the Face of Homeschooling—Be Visible!
Have you ever thought about what your legislator really knows about homeschooling? Chances are—very little. They may not know its rich history in Virginia, the laws that protect it, or the everyday stories of joy, perseverance, and success that fill your homeschool days.
That’s why we’re inviting you to join Meet Your Virginia Legislator Week: September 29 – October 3, 2025.
This is your chance to shine a light on homeschooling in the most personal way possible by sharing your story face-to-face with the men and women who make decisions about your freedom to homeschool.
Why Your Voice Matters
Most legislators rarely hear directly from homeschool families. When they think about “education,” they often picture only public schools. They struggle to envision education outside the traditional classroom. But YOU—your family, your story, your children—are living proof that there are other paths that lead to thriving kids, strong families, and flourishing communities.
With an expected challenging legislative session ahead and powerful opponents mobilizing, it’s more important than ever to offer your representatives a window into the thriving world of homeschooling. Your voice can make the difference between a legislator who is uncertain about homeschool freedom—and one who becomes a defender of it.

Tips for a Great Visit
We know meeting with a legislator can feel intimidating, but with a little preparation, it can actually be a wonderful memory for your family. Here are some ideas to help you succeed:
Do a little homework. Read a short bio of your legislator before you go. Find a couple of things to make a personal connection—a shared hobby, hometown, sports team, or interest.
Bring the family. Kids make homeschooling visible! They also bring warmth and energy into the meeting.
Prepare your story. Think about why homeschooling matters to you. What difference has it made in your child’s life? Keep it short and personal. Allow willing children to share themselves.
Practice answering questions. Legislators often ask kids, “What grade are you in?” (a tricky question for homeschoolers!). Help your children come up with simple, confident answers. Brainstorm together. Think of what other questions might come up–and consider questions you want to ask your representative.
Explain why freedom matters. Be ready to share why homeschool liberty is crucial. Keep it positive and encouraging.
Remember—you don’t need to be an expert. Just be yourself. Your authenticity will speak louder than any statistic.
Should a question arise that you’re unable to answer, simply say so. That provides an opportunity for a future connection when you do respond. We are here to help with any questions!
A Family Adventure with Purpose
Think of Meet Your Virginia Legislator Week as more than just a civic duty. It’s a field trip with purpose! Your kids will learn firsthand how government works, why freedom matters, and how their own family’s story has power to influence leaders.
Plus—it’s fun! Imagine your children shaking hands with a legislator, sharing what they love about homeschooling, and realizing they’re part of something bigger than themselves.
Be the Face of Homeschooling
You are the face of homeschooling in Virginia. Legislators can read reports and statistics—but nothing compares to looking into the eyes of a homeschool mom or dad and hearing their child explain why they love learning at home.
So mark your calendar: September 29 – October 3, 2025.
Make your appointment now. Pack your family’s smiles and stories. And let’s make homeschooling visible—together.
