Transcript and Course Location

Q. On my teen’s high school transcript, should I list the place he took some of his courses—for example, high school courses taken online or at our local co-op?

A. A transcript is a very concise record of your high school student’s education. It should fit on one page, in a format that is clear and readable. Typically, you would not include where classes were taken. An exception would be if your teen completed a course while he was dual enrolled at a community college, or he completed a college-level, distance-learning course. In these situations, you would put an asterisk behind the course name and link it to the bottom of the transcript where you would provide the name of the college issuing the grade. You would verify the information by attaching a grade report from the college or distance learning program.
