Military Reception
This FREE event is to honor homeschooling members of the military.
All military personnel, their spouse, and minor children are welcome!
If you are a homeschooling parent and you or your spouse are veteran, active, or retired military personnel, you are invited to grab a quick lunch and then join us for a dessert reception.* Minor children are welcome, as well.
We will highlight HEAV’s resources and services for military homeschoolers and introduce you to Virginia school liaison officers from bases across the Commonwealth.

Reception Sponsor – IEW
The mission of the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) is to equip teachers and teaching parents with methods and materials which will aid them in training their students to become confident and competent communicators and thinkers. Using the four language arts—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—IEW methods have been proven to be effective for students of all ages and levels of ability, including those who are gifted, have special needs, or are English language learners. Cancellations
The reception is FREE to military families. However, if you have made a reservation but cannot attend—please let us know. Call our office at 804-278-9200 so we can remove your name from our reservation list. If we do not receive your cancellation by May 17, we must ask you to pay the $10 cost* of the reception. If you notify us by this date, you will not be asked to pay the cost of the reception.

Moms Safe Space Workshop: Building Community & Facilitating Reconciliation
Have you ever wondered why moms of other cultures do or say the things they do? Have you ever wished you understood them better? Have you ever heard something about another race that hurt or confused you? Have you ever wished you could just ASK questions in a safe space? Welcome to “Mom’s Safe Space,” a workshop where you will learn safe speech techniques to help open the conversation, build community, and experience reconciliation.

Financial Need
If you are an HEAV member, there is no cost for the luncheon. If you have a sincere financial need, we are happy to provide scholarship help for the luncheon. Click here to submit a request.
Cancellations
The plated luncheon is FREE to group leaders who are also HEAV members. However, if you have made a reservation but cannot attend—please let us know. Call our office at 804-278-9200 so we can remove your name from our reservation list. If we do not receive your cancellation by August 5, we must ask you to pay the $20 cost of the lunch. If you notify us by this date, you will not be asked to pay the full cost of luncheon.
