Effortlessly Support HEAV Every Day
Most of these are also great ways for family, friends, and neighbors to help support homeschooling.
Please take a few minutes to check out the programs listed below. Many of these programs let portions of the money you’re already spending on things like groceries, online shopping, and travel go toward supporting homeschooling in Virginia! It doesn’t cost you a dime–you pay the same price you would normally; the retailer or program makes the donation.
Can’t do them all? Just pick those you can! Whatever you are able to do will make a BIG difference. Thank you for helping make a difference in the lives of families across the state!
HEAV is no longer accepting Box Tops for Education.
But here are many other ways you can support HEAV–and bless homeschooling families at the same time:
1) BECOME A MEMBER
Visit www.heav.com/joinrenew to read about all the benefits of joining HEAV and to find out how you can become a member.
Do you shop online at major retailers such as
- Home Depot,
- Or other major chains?
If you click over to these websites through the links on GoodShop, a portion of your purchases will go towards supporting the work of HEAV–all while you pay the same prices you normally would!
It’s easy! No logging in required, and you can easily find stores by searching for a name, choosing from an alphabetical drop down, or browsing by category. Just visit GoodShop, make sure “Home Educators Association of Virginia” is selected as your charity, and begin shopping! Don’t forget to bookmark the page so you can easily visit it whenever you need to shop online.
3) LINK TO HEAV OR TELL YOUR FRIENDS
Do you have a blog or website? A link to HEAV is a simple but very effective way to support HEAV and share our resources with others! Click here for sample links and instructions.
Letting your friends know about the resources HEAV provides is a BIG way you can help us meet the needs of families.
Register your grocery card to effortlessly support HEAV while you shop! Once your card has been registered, your grocery store will donate a percentage of your purchases to HEAV–all at no extra cost to you!
Martin’s A+ Program - Simply link your BONUSCARD online at www.martinsaplus.com (designate Home Educators Association of Virginia as your school and use ID #03232).

5) BOOK AIRLINE TICKETS AND HOTELS THROUGH YTBTRAVEL
Next time you’re in need of airplane tickets or a rental car, or will be booking hotel rooms in advance, visit www.ytbtravel.com/homeeducators. The rates are competitive with other super-saver travel sites, and by purchasing your tickets through YTBTravel (previously known as EduTravel), you’re benefiting HEAV with 40% of the travel commissions! You may find you save time and money too!
“After booking flights through Travelocity for more than five years, last month I decided to try EduTravel. I compared the two sites and was pleasantly surprised to find I could get the exact same flight and price! It is so nice to know EduTravel will offer my family the best deals while benefiting HEAV!” -Linda Linder of Manassas
“I booked my first flight on EduTravel and found a lower fare than was shown on the other search engines. It turns out EduTravel will automatically let you know if a lower fare is available for another travel time or day–a great money-saving feature that avoids having to spend huge amounts of time searching for the lowest fare!” -Anne Miller, president of HEAV
It’s simple! Just collect your used ink cartridges and bring the used cartridges into the HEAV office or to the HEAV convention.
You can recycle Dell, HP, Lexmark, and Kodak cartridges. For every cartridge you recycle this way, HEAV will get $3 from Staples, useable toward office supplies!
Support the work of HEAV at the same time as you search the Internet…with no cost or extra effort!
Download HEAV’s BenefitBar and use it for all your Internet searches. Downloading the benefit bar is simple and only takes a few minutes, but it has the potential to support HEAV in a BIG way. This toolbar sits on top of your web browser (Internet Explorer or Mozilla Firefox) and allows you to quickly search the web using the Yahoo! Search engine.
Every time you click on a sponsored link in the search results, HEAV will receive 10 cents from Yahoo! If you search the sponsored links three times a day, on average, that is 30 cents per day. And if 100 people click three times a day, HEAV will earn $900 a month! That’s $900 extra dollars we can use to help families in need, provide scholarships, produce materials, and work to defend the rights of families.
Important Note: Please search the Internet as you normally would; purposefully trying to click on links just to earn money is prohibited.
We recommend homeschooling families join HSLDA. Even if you never experience legal trouble yourself, your HSLDA membership will help enable other homeschooling families to get the legal help they need and will help defend our right to homeschool.
Join using this link or write “Affiliate 2294016″ in the space marked “Other” on Section 2, Question B (the question labeled “I received this application from”), and HEAV will receive $20 (new HSLDA members only). Joining HSLDA is a great way to support homeschooling freedoms and homeschooling in Virginia at the same time!
HEAV Members Save $20! If you’re an HEAV member, you will receive $20 off the membership price when you enter the code on the reverse side of your membership card!
Presented by The Old Schoolhouse Magazine, SchoolhouseTeachers.com is a membership site dedicated to helping you educate. They provide the teachers and the lessons; you just need to log in and present the material. If you were able to purchase only three of the full curricula that are offered, you could easily spend more than $100. A yearly subscription to SchoolhouseTeachers.com is an exceptional value at only $64.26, or pay just $5.95 a month for access to at least 18 different subjects and daily lessons for your whole family, plus you get their homeschool planners FREE. Doctors, dentists, orthodontists, and other medical offices often display magazines for patients to read while waiting. Wouldn’t it be wonderful if parents learned about the benefits of home education while waiting to be seen?
Next time you go to an appointment (doctor, dentist, etc.), bring a copy of the Virginia Home Educator and ask if they would like to receive a complimentary subscription? If they say yes, just send their name and address, and a note saying they gave you permission to subscribe them, to email@example.com! HEAV is happy to send the magazine regularly to any office with a waiting room at NO charge.
Leaving a magazine at your local Christian bookstore or anywhere else parents frequent would also be a great way to introduce more people to homeschooling!
Note: If you need extra magazines to distribute, please just let us know!
11) VOLUNTEER WITH HEAV
A lot of the work at HEAV is done by volunteers—busy families just like yours who see a need and get involved! HEAV volunteers are an integral part of making a difference for homeschoolers in our state. We need volunteers at both the June convention and the Richmond office, as well as Outreach Partners around the state who will pass on ready-to-go informaiton to their local church, MOPS group, Internet outlet, or community. Learn more about volunteering today!
