Calling all homeschoolers!

Please join us Thursday, September 8th for our Hands-On History: Homeschool Day in partnership the Home Educator’s Association of Virginia. There will be several fun and educational opportunities available for students and adults to enjoy throughout the day.Take a self-guided audio tour of the Great House and historic area, along with a scavenger hunt activity for the children.

  • Learn about colonial foodways and the influence of enslaved cooks on American cuisine while watching an 18th-century cooking demonstration with historical interpreter, Dontavius Williams.
  • Experience the music of the African Diaspora through drumming demonstrations by Slam Stewart.
  • Talk to our knowledgeable museum educators about Paleontology, Archaeology, and Historic Preservation at Stratford Hall. Or explore our over 1,800-acer site through miles of nature trails and sharks tooth hunting on the Stratford Hall Public Beach.

Pre-registration is encouraged, but not required. Tickets will be available for purchase onsite the day of the program. Families are encouraged to pack a picnic lunch and utilize one of our multiple picnic areas throughout the property. Come spend your day at Stratford Hall!

Driving Directions:

If following GPS, please use 483 Great House Rd, Montross, VA 22520 as the destination.

  • From Washington: From the Eastern half of the Beltway: Take Maryland Rte 5 South to US-301 South. About 10 miles after crossing the Potomac River toll bridge, turn left onto VA-3 East. Follow VA-3 for 20 miles, then take a left onto VA-214 (Stratford Hall Road). Follow VA-214 for 2 miles. Stratford Hall’s gate is on the left.
  • From the Western half of the Beltway: Take I-95 South to VA-3 East (exit 130A on I-95) in Fredericksburg. Follow Route 3 for about 45 miles, then take a left onto VA-214 (Stratford Hall Road). Follow VA-214 for 2 miles. Stratford Hall’s gate is on the left.
  • From Fredericksburg: Take VA-3 East for about 45 miles, then take a left onto VA-214 (Stratford Hall Road). Follow VA-214 for 2 miles. Stratford Hall’s gate is on the left.
  • From Richmond: Take Route 360 East to Warsaw, VA. In Warsaw, take VA-3 West to Montross, VA. From Montross, continue on Route 3 approximately 5 miles, then take a right onto VA-214 (Stratford Hall Rd). Follow Va-214 for 2 miles. Stratford Hall’s gate is on the left.
  • From Williamsburg: Take US-17 North towards Yorktown and drive approximately 67.5 miles. Turn slight right onto US-17 North/US-360 East. Turn right not US 360/Queen Street. Continue on US 360 East. Turn left onto VA-3 BR. Turn left onto VA-3 West, then take a right onto VA-214 (Stratford Hall Rd). Follow VA-214 for 2 miles. Stratford Hall’s gate is on the left.
