A parent in a Virginia county submitted a notice of intent, only to be told it was “declined.” Because she’d attended the county school in early high school, she pressed them for a reason and was told that her own high school grades were “unacceptable,” to allow her to homeschool her own children. Perplexed, she contacted HEAV. We were able to intervene, explaining that her high school diploma was all that was required – searching her academic record went far beyond what the law permits. She is successfully homeschooling her children today.
