Tell Us YOUR Story

Year after year, convention attendees say that a friend’s testimony brought them to the convention. We would love to hear your story as we prepare to celebrate 30 years of service to the homeschooling families of Virginia.

How has HEAV changed or helped your homeschooling journey?

How has the annual convention made a difference for you and your family?

As we celebrate this wonderful milestone, we would love to put the spotlight on you–the homeschool families of Virginia–and allow your experience to bless fellow home educators.

Take time to share your story with us, and we may select it to be featured in our publications. Please submit your stories to Christie Russell at publicity@heav.org by November 30.

Good-bye, Box Tops for EducationBox Tops for Education

Over the last three years, support groups and families have raised more than $22,000 through Box Tops for Education–with nearly 60% of the proceeds being donated to HEAV and the rest going back to help support groups and families. However, after prayerful consideration, our board has determined HEAV should not solicit financial support from a business that publicly opposes traditional marriage, and so we will no longer be accepting Box Tops.

Our heartfelt thanks goes to everyone who clipped and saved and sent in the more than 220,000 Box Tops collected to support the ongoing work of HEAV! You all are awesome! Box Tops that have been submitted as of today will be honored, and checks will be mailed as scheduled in January 2013.

Take Action to Halt the CRPD Threat!

We’ve posted several times about the danger of the U.N.’s Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), a human rights treaty that threatens to undermine your right to homeschool. Although no more action will be taken on this treaty until AFTER the November 6 elections, it’s imperative that we let our legislators know that we are still watching. Parentalrights.org is asking you to join them in a one-day social media campaign tomorrow–October 31–to get that message out by posting on your Facebook or Twitter feed. Read more and learn what you need to do here .

4) Parting Thought – Recipe for Forever

Gather all of the ingredients together, so that they are close at hand!

Get a clean cloth and wipe the bowl clean of any lingering dust from the past.

Take maturity, respect, and friendship, and stir gently.

Add unlimited amounts of compassion and kindness, and mix well.

To this, add caring by the handfuls and fold in trust.

Continue stirring gently, adding listening, honesty, and large amounts of communication.

Slip in some dreams, goals, and firm pieces of keeping promises.

Bake in a home filled with peace, beauty, and serenity.

Before you taste the finished product, sprinkle liberally with patience, love, and a touch of spice.

Serve very hot, with imagination on the side.

5) Worth Repeating

“Let each citizen remember at the moment he is offering his vote that he is not making a present or a compliment to please an individual–or at least that he ought not so to do; but that he is executing one of the most solemn trusts in human society for which he is accountable to God and his country.”

– Samuel Adams (1722-1803) American statesman, political philosopher, and one of the founding fathers of the United States; he is known as “The Father of the American Revolution.” Read more at Samuel Adams, Son of Liberty.
