Great Things Are Coming

Great Things Are Coming!

If you haven’t marked June 6-8, 2013, on your calendar, do it now! You won’t want to miss seeing and hearing from special guests Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar, along with our keynote speakers Michael Farris and Jeff Myers. PLUS, there will be LOTS of other great workshops and speakers.

Meet America’s Cheapest Family!
Steve & Annette Economides
, known as America’s Cheapest Family, provide practical ways to save money and avoid debt. Authors of the New York Times’ best-selling book, America’s Cheapest Family (see our “Pick-of-the-Month” special below), the Economides have been encouraging families through financial difficulties since 1982. Take a look at their website here for encouragement and advice–even if frugality isn’t new to you, you’ll still be able to glean some money saving ideas. And don’t miss hearing them share at the 2013 Virginia Homeschool Convention!

The Magazine Is on Its Way!

Watch your mailboxes for the winter issue of The Virginia Home Educator, HEAV’s free homeschool magazine. This issue’s theme is including other children in your homeschool–whether through adoption, co-ops, child sponsorship, or the Fresh Air Fund. Plus, a special section on Sports Access with articles by Delegate Rob Bell and Rick Boyer.

View the new digital version of the magazine on your mobile device! If you don’t receive the magazine, you may subscribe now to receive this free resource.

HSLDA‘s $20/$20 Offer

For a limited time, homeschoolers can purchase or renew a two-year membership with the Home School Legal Defense Association at a $20-discounted price–and receive a $20 coupon, too! See more details here and take advantage of this limited-time offer.

These savings are in addition to the discount you already get if you’re an HEAV member, so HEAV members will save $40 off their HSLDA membership or renewal.

A Cause Worth Supporting

Homeschool dad Dr. Brian D. Ray founded the National Home Education Research Institute (NHERI) in 1990 as a non-profit organization specializing in home-education research. His efforts have had an immeasurable impact on the homeschool movement, providing the information needed to help defend and promote homeschooling.

Please consider supporting homeschooling nationwide by making an end-of-year, tax-deductible donation to NHERI.

Pick of the Month Last Chance – Ends Friday

Pick of the Month

America’s Cheapest Family by Steve and Annette Economides was so practical and understandable a book that it only took three weeks to land on the New York Times Best Seller List! Get a glimpse of how the authors, a homeschool family, paid off their first house in nine years, raised five happy kids, never had a car payment, and had lots and lots of laughter.

Member price $8.16 and non-member price $9.07.

Transcript Editor Volunteer

Do you love editing and reveling in details? Did you love creating your child’s high school transcript and maybe helping other moms who were unsure of what to do? If so, you may be HEAV’s new transcript editor!

HEAV is looking for a volunteer willing to spend approximately one hour or two hours a week managing and editing transcript submissions. Work can be done from home, and experience is not necessary (you will be trained to use the computer program), but the following skills are essential: accurate typing, organization, attention to detail, and a familiarity with high school course titles. If interested, please contact Maureen Bittner at publications@heav.org.

Article of the Week

Human Doings – Cindy Puhek

Mrs. Puhek reminds us to prayerfully examine our hearts and lives to see if our goals are to raise our children to be top students, athletes, and musicians, or to raise them primarily to be God-glorifying Christians. She suggests some “To Do List” items to help us evaluate our situations.

4) Parting Thought – More Church Signs

Thank God for what you have. Trust God for what you need.

Sometimes God calms the storm; sometimes He lets the storm rage and calms His child.

Don’t let your worries get the best of you; remember, Moses started out as a basket case.

– As seen on the Internet and signs in Virginia.

5) Worth Repeating

“Be assured, if you walk with Him and look to Him, and expect help from Him, He will never fail you.
– George Mueller, (1805-1898). Born Johann Georg Ferdinand Müller in Prussia, he emigrated and evangelized and established orphanages that rescued over 10,000 orphans in Victorian England. In a practice that was unusual–and criticized–in his day, he also provided the children an education. Additionally, he established schools that educated over 100,000 poor children. 6) Verse of the Week

Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

– Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)
