Become an HSF Ambassador!

The Home School Foundation, the charitable arm of the Home School Legal Defense Association, is a nationwide organization whose mission is to bless homeschool families and further the cause of homeschooling. These two organizations are very closely tied in their mission to help and support the homeschool community.

HSF offers assistance to homeschooling families with specific needs–widows, single parents, special needs, military families, curriculum relief, disaster relief, and more. HSF’s Ambassadors work together to identify needs and organize and implement local service projects such as repairing a widow’s roof, helping a single mom with yard maintenance, or organizing fundraisers to benefit homeschool families in their state who need financial assistance. Become a part of this program by volunteering as an ambassador here.

The U.S. Government May Deport This Homeschool Family

Here’s a chance to directly aid a homeschool family. The Romeikes came from Germany to the U.S. in 2010 with a desire to homeschool their children–something the laws of their country do not allow. Facing political persecution, including exorbitant fines, forcible removal of their children, and possible imprisonment, they sought and won political asylum here. However, unless they are granted full legal status, they may be forced to leave the U.S.

Please take a moment to sign the online petition asking the government to grant the Romeikes legal status.

Article of the Week

I Want to Give Up (But I Won’t!) – Deborah Wuehler

Like many modern moms, Deborah Wuehler of The Old Schoolhouse magazine says she finds herself dealing with wanting to quit something–laundry, cooking, homeschooling–about once a month. She offers sound biblical principles and “25 Reasons Not to Give Up.” The list is a good one to print and post where the family can see it! Here is a longer article by the same author in a back issue of The Old Schoolhouse magazine.

4) Parting Thought – All Glory, Laud, and Honor

All glory, laud, and honor

to you, Redeemer, King,

to whom the lips of children

made sweet hosannas ring.

You are the King of Israel

and David’s royal Son,

now in the Lord’s name coming,

the King and Blessed One.

So begins one of the oldest Easter season hymns we have, written by Bishop Theodulf of Orleans in his prison cell in about 820 A.D. Read the other verses, a short biography of the original writer and of the modern (19th-century) translator, hear a midi file, and download the sheet music at the hymn’s page on Hymnary.org, a website worth bookmarking. YouTube has several good instrumental and vocal versions too.

5) Worth Repeating

“O Death, where is thy sting? O Hell, where is thy victory?

Christ is risen, and thou art overthrown!

Christ is risen, and the demons are fallen!

Christ is risen, and the angels rejoice!

Christ is risen, and life reigns!

Christ is risen, and not one dead remains in the grave.

For Christ, being risen from the dead,

Is become the first-fruits of those who have fallen asleep.”

– John Chrysostom (c. 347-407 A.D.), Greek Archbishop at Constantinople, Church Father. John Chrysostom is particularly significant in the Roman Catholic and Orthodox churches, in addition to some Anglican and Lutheran churches.

6) Verse of the Week

But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

– Titus 3:4-5 (KJV)
