The Central Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association’s Basketball Program capped off a great season with several of the Varsity Boys team members traveling to the 21st Annual National Christian Homeschool Basketball Championships in Springfield, Missouri, in March. The CVHAA Patriots Varsity Boys were ranked ninth in Division 1 Old School–National Top 20 Finish & Class 4A Champion. They were the first team from Virginia to participate in the Championship in its 21 years of existence. For more information on NCHBC, visit nchclive.com.  The CVHAA Varsity Boys also won their Conference championship game (VCAA) and Virginia Homeschool Athletic Association Championship (VHSAA)–both for the second year in a row. They also won the HSPN East Coast Homeschool Basketball Championship–the highest division (8A) held at Liberty University.

Summer and the Homeschool Mom – Kari Lewis

There are different approaches to homeschooling families can take during the summer months. Consider the options presented for review including less formal learning; big, “messy” projects; exploring other styles of learning you don’t usually use, and others. However your family does it, the author encourages moms and dads to take time for purposeful thought and analysis about how their home education program is going.

4) Parting Thought – A Million Copies a Year

The McGuffey Readers sold at least 120 million copies from 1836 to just 1960. Since then, the revival of homeschooling has meant sales upwards of 30,000 copies a year! America’s first texts included the Bible itself and the New England Primer, based heavily on Bible doctrines and themes. McGuffey continued the biblical themes through its initial versions and, to a lesser extent, in revisions. Read more about Reverend McGuffey and his readers in the entry by William Federer on the American Minute website.
