Calls Needed for Military Testing Fairness

Call your U.S. representatives to ensure that homeschool graduates are treated fairly when they enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces. The Pentagon requires homeschool graduates to score 50 on the military’s enlistment test when other students score 30 to pass. Ask your representative to support the bipartisan Kline-Hunter-Andrews-Polis Amendment No. 79 to the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). You may identify yourself as a homeschool parent or student. You can reach your U.S. representative at the Capitol Switchboard at 202-224-3121. More information can be found here.

4) Parting Thought – Sermons Without Words

“When you are tempted to chafe and repine at the narrowness of your circumstances, and the limitations of your sphere–remember that for thirty years, Jesus found room in a humble peasant home for worthy living and for service, not unfitted to His exalted character. If you can do nothing but live a true Christian life–patient, gentle, kindly, pure–in your home, in society, at your daily duty–you will perform a service of great value, and leave many blessings in the world. Such a life is a little gospel, telling in sermons without words–the wonderful story of the cross of Christ.”

-J.R. Miller (1840-1912) James Russell Miller was a popular Christian author, Editorial Superintendent of the Presbyterian Board of Publication, and pastor of several churches in Pennsylvania and Illinois.

5) Worth Repeating

“The books that help you most are those which make you think the most. The hardest way of learning is that of easy reading; but a great book that comes from a great thinker is a ship of thought, deep freighted with truth and beauty.”

– Theodore Parker (1810-1860), American minister and abolitionist. Although he was drawn in by German “higher criticism,” his writings influenced Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.
