The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, though defeated in 2012, is making its way back into the Senate following a recent court decision that denied federal prosecutors the ability to use a chemical-weapons treaty to convict a woman accused of attacking her husband’s mistress.

Saying that the decision “removes any fears that the Convention could ever be used to expand federal authority beyond the limits of the Constitution, undermine state sovereignty, or allow lawsuits to be filed in U.S. courts,” senators and lobbyists are moving aggressively to revive the UNCRPD. HSLDA is calling for e-mails (not phone calls at this point) to your two U.S. senators now. Read more here.

4) Parting Thought – On Reading the Bible

Do you ever get discouraged by what you think is slow progress in reading through the Bible? Don’t mark your success or failure by mere pages read, but rather on your understanding and application of God’s Word. A radio program recently mentioned that Dr. John MacArthur of “Grace to You” and Grace Community Church has taken 42 years to preach through the New Testament alone! Start wherever you are, read daily, and begin to more fully apply the Word of God to your life.

5) Worth Repeating

“Children are made readers on the laps of their parents.”

– Emilie Buchwald (1935-present), American author and educator. Although some of her writing is controversial, she is certainly right in empowering parents when she affirms that they can teach their own children to read.

6) Verse of the Week

Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the LORD thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

– Deuteronomy 31:6 (KJV)
