Important Reminders

Ready or not, the school year will soon begin! Below are a few notes to keep in mind as you begin your preparations.

1. Test Results Are Due August 1.
According to § 22.1-254.1, your student’s test results, an evaluation, or an assessment are due by August 1.

2. Your Notice of Intent Is Due August 15.
The deadline to let your division superintendent know you will be homeschooling (August 15) is fast approaching. Be sure to know what information the law requires you to send–check the Notice of Intent information on the HEAV website.

There is also a Notice of Intent (NOI) form you can download and use. The Virginia homeschool law does not require you to use a particular form (you could write a letter if you’d like), but this form contains all the information required by law.

Have questions? Take a look at our Notice of Intent FAQs. If you don’t find the answer to your question, please just give us a call (804-278-9200), or send us an e-mail (

Legislative Update
It may be early to begin following legislative activity, but HEAV has already been made aware of important information you need to know. Read the latest Legislative Alert here, and subscribe today to make sure you’re kept up to date all year long.
