Jill Shelton

Jill Shelton, Ed.S. serves as the Director of Mentoring and Speaker Coordinator for the Home Educators Association of Virginia (HEAV). She brings more than 35 years of experience in education: 10 years as a public educator and school board member, and over 25 years of homeschooling and working closely with parents of homeschool families across all stages of their journey. Jill has extensive experience supporting students with special needs as well as gifted and talented learners, and is passionate about equipping families to homeschool with confidence and purpose.

Jill Shelton

Jill holds two master’s degrees in education—the first in Special Education and the second in
Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis in English. She is also completing her dissertation and is on track to earn her doctorate in the fall of 2026 in Education in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Educational Psychology. As a military veteran and the wife of a retired combat-veteran (married 30 years), Jill has homeschooled through 16 military PCS moves and successfully graduated four children, as well as a nephew who completed his high school education under her guidance, with one tween still homeschooling.

A frequent speaker at homeschool events, Jill has presented on topics including transcripts,
homeschooling through high school, mentoring moms, simultaneous homeschooling of teens and toddlers, and Homeschool 101. Her current sessions at the HEAV Convention, Transcripts with Special Needs and Transcript Bootcamp, emphasize that a child is more than a transcript while underscoring why transcripts are critical for future opportunities. Jill has a heart for mentoring moms, especially those navigating the challenges and blessings that accompany homeschooling in the high school years. She approaches her work from a Biblical worldview and is an active member of Belmont Christian Church in Christiansburg, Virginia.
