Gary Thomas

Gary is the author of 18 books, including Cherish, Sacred Marriage, and the Gold Medallion award winner Authentic Faith. Gary holds a BA in English literature and an MA in systematic theology. He serves on the teaching team at Second Baptist Church, Houston, and is an adjunct faculty member at both Western Seminary in Portland, Oregon and Houston Theological Seminary in Houston, Texas. He has spoken on numerous television and radio programs, including Focus on the Family and Family Life Today. Gary enjoys running and has completed 14 marathons. He and his wife, Lisa, have been married for 35 years and have three adult children.

Durenda Wilson

Durenda has been homeschooling her eight children for over 24 years, with two still at home. She’s been married to Darryl for 30 years, and they have six grandkids. Durenda is convinced that home educating is an incredible blessing, but only if we don’t let it hold us hostage to unnecessary expectations and notions of what it “should” look like. She encourages families to take time to enjoy this amazing journey and keep things simple and unhurried. Yvonne Bunn

Yvonne Bunn, HEAV’s director of homeschool support and government affairs, works with HEAV’s legislative team to protect and improve Virginia’s homeschool laws. She has developed a Homeschool Success Seminar series that she has shared at homeschool conferences, support groups, and co-ops throughout Virginia, and in a week-long series on the nationally syndicated Homeschool Heartbeat. Yvonne also spearheaded HEAV’s efforts in the General Assembly to pass the first homeschool license plate in the nation. She has a degree in elementary education and taught in a Christian school prior to homeschooling for 18 years. Yvonne and her husband, George, have 5 children and 15 grandchildren.

Eric & Joyce Burges

Eric and Joyce founded the National Black Home Educators (NBHE) resource network in 2000, which endeavors to empower parents to educate their children for excellence. Eric was president of Christian Home Educators Fellowship of Louisiana for three years and now serves with the board of directors. He is also an artist, speaker, songwriter and singer, as well as a licensed minister. Joyce is a gifted singer, homeschool teacher of five, advisor, and lecturer. She has spoken to many women locally and nationally, and she is a frequent speaker to young girls’ homes, encouraging them with the principles of healing past hurts, finding your identity in your image, valuing your integrity, and maintaining a great love for yourself through serving others.
