Elementary and Middle School Writing

Make connections, explore new ideas, and take the next steps with confidence

NEW! Elementary Writing and Language Lab

with Andrew Pudewa (Institute for Excellence in Writing)

This is a two-part program for the elementary students ages 8 to 11 (grades 3 to 5.)

Introduction to IEW – Level A
This introductory workshop is the perfect introduction to IEW’s Structure and Style® writing method! Andrew’s winsome instruction will delight talented students and will help reluctant writers overcome their trepidation. Participants will learn the key word outline, the foundation for all IEW writing, along with selected stylistic techniques in order to craft their own compositions with confidence.

Active Language Lab

Limber up for this fast-paced journey through a classic story! Students 3rd-5th grade will brush up on their proofreading skills, commit a poem to memory, and then enter into a classic tale and bring it to life in a short play, all in an hour and a half! (This will be taught by an IEW team member.)

Middle School Writing

with Matthew Stephens (Essentials in Writing)

Through Matthew’s comical, highly interactive personality and logical, sensible approach to writing, students will learn that writing doesn’t have to be painful. Rather, writing can be easy. Writing can be doable. Writing can be fun?

Well, if not fun, at least…done!

In this session, students will learn the basic structure of compositions and how it applies to all writing. Using a hands-on tactile approach, students will learn the logical, step by step approach to any composition as well and build descriptive, expository, and persuasive writing in small groups and/or alone.

Your Convention Plan

Choose one of three tracks for beginners, high schoolers, or parents of special needs—or invest in some couple time in the Art of Marriage while the kids attend the Children’s Program or special, optional add-on sessions just for them.

The day kicks off with the morning keynote at 8:30 a.m. After the evening keynote ends at 6 p.m., do some more shopping in the Exhibit Hall or enjoy a leisurely dinner at a local restaurant, and then come out Friday Family Night!

Enjoy a full day of workshops with frequent breaks to shop in the Exhibit Hall. Filled with the very best in educational materials from around the country, this is the perfect place to peruse books, touch the materials--and often, talk with the actual writer!

A huge thank you to our convention sponsors!
