Convention News

Who could have imagined how our world would change in just a few months? Even so, we continue to put our hope and trust in the Lord.

With the newest government restrictions, the HEAV board of directors regretfully and reluctantly has been forced to cancel the 37th Annual Virginia Homeschool Convention. This difficult decision was not made lightly, but with these drastic, new restrictions in place, there is simply no other choice.

We are sad we won’t be seeing you this year, but we know the Lord is in control and we are continuing to trust in Him.

WHAT YOU CAN DO

Would you prayerfully consider making a donation to help support the work of HEAV? In return for a donation of $100 or more, as special thank you from us to you, we would like to offer:

In spite of these very difficult days, we are eager to “run with endurance the race that is set before us,” and to fulfill the vision that the Lord has given us for serving you and the homeschooling families of Virginia.

Back in March, when life was interrupted by COVID-19 and government restrictions, we took the convention theme, Run with Endurance, to heart and rescheduled the convention, believing public life would safely resume by the end of August. You willingly pivoted with us to an August event—and we are so grateful for your flexibility and support through these months—but these new restrictions make a convention impossible at this time.

The annual convention, which has encouraged and equipped tens of thousands of families, is a massive project that takes an entire year of planning and preparation—and ultimately provides the financial support for HEAV operations all year long.

As you can imagine, the loss of nearly 60% of our annual income—as well as the loss of the financial investment already made in the convention—is devastating to HEAV, so much so that even with the huge cuts we’ve made and are making, we’re praying we can make it through the summer.

This comes at a time when interest in homeschooling is skyrocketing, when extended school closures are anticipated, when 40% of families say they are more likely to homeschool, when 1761 moms and dads asked to join our Homeschooling in Virginia Facebook group for help, and when there is a national push for more homeschool regulation—especially when everyone is now learning at home.

The Lord is turning the hearts of the fathers to their children in a way we never imagined, and we have been so excited about the opportunities to encourage and equip parents in a whole new way of learning and a whole new understanding of family life and relationships.

With the convention canceled, we are turning to a virtual live event in August and a series throughout the summer. Stay tuned for details!

Right now, we don’t know what the future holds for HEAV, but we DO know we serve a God who is sovereign, gracious, and faithful, and we are trusting in His plans for this organization.
