1. Community Cornerstone Group Open House – Glen Allen – March 12

Calvary Christian Church
Glen Allen, Virginia

Tuesday, March 12, 2019, from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Cost: This is a free community event.

Cornerstone Community Group is a homeschool cooperative and support group for homeschooling families in the community. The group meets weekly at Calvary Christian Church for students to socialize, explore, and learn more about God’s creations. Join them for this open house to meet teachers, learn about the classes offered, and get more information about the co-op.

2. Chesterfield Historical Society Homeschool Programs – Various Locations – Multiple Dates

The Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia, in partnership with the Chesterfield Department of Parks and Recreation, is sponsoring programs for homeschooled students age six and older in March and April.

Programs include “Chesterfield Coal: From Fossil Fuel to Electricity,” “World War I: The War to End All Wars,” and “Geocaching.”

Cost: $5/child, age six years and older; accompanying adults free. Pre-registration is required for all programs.

3. Gaithersburg Book Festival – Gaithersburg, MD – May 18

City Hall grounds

Gaithersburg, Maryland

Saturday, May 18, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost: This is a free, family event.

The Gaithersburg Book Festival is an annual celebration of great books and great writing. The festival will feature more than 100 best-selling and award-winning authors who will participate in talks, panel discussions, and book signings throughout the day. Authors will include Sarah McCoy, Damon Young, Chris Pavone, Minh Le, Gary Schmidt, and Amy Ewing, among many others.

Other festival highlights include exhibiting authors, a Children’s Village, literary exhibitors, the Brew & Vine Cafe featuring live entertainment, used and new book sales, and free interactive, hands-on writing workshops on a variety of topics.

Admission, parking, and accessible shuttle buses from Shady Grove Metro and Lakeforest Mall are free.
