October 9 Is Fire Prevention Day
Fire prevention week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871, which began on October 8 but did most of its damage on October 9, 1871. For that reason, Fire Prevention Day always falls on the same day, and Prevention Week is the week in which October 9 falls.
