1. Homeschool Day at the American Shakespeare Center – Staunton – April 18

Blackfriar’s Playhouse
Staunton, Virginia

Wednesday, April 18, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Cost: $55/student, ages seven to eighteen; $35/adult. Cost includes student matinee, playhouse tour, lunch, and student workshops.

Students will experience an immersive, interactive view into the world of Shakespeare at the Blackfriars Playhouse, the world’s only re-creation of Shakespeare’s indoor theatre. Following the student matinee production of Macbeth, students will get a behind-the-scenes look at the world of the American Shakespeare Center through a guided playhouse tour, “Embedded Stage Directions” workshop, and “Stage Combat and Blood” workshop.

2. Homeschool Spring Ball – Troutville – April 28

Rainbow Forest Baptist Church

Troutville, Virginia

Saturday, April 28, 2018, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Cost: $12 in advance, $17 at the door.

Students ages twelve and older are invited to participate in this Colonial-style ball. Parents do not need a ticket to observe and take pictures but will need a ticket if they wish to participate. There is a $5 charge for parents who wish to enjoy refreshments while observing.

Modest dress is required. For ladies, please wear nothing low cut, strapless, with spaghetti straps, backless, tight, or with hems above the knee. For gentlemen, please wear dress pants, shirt, and tie at a minimum.

3. Beginning Genealogy Classes – Chesterfield – May 5 Through June 9

Historic Trinity Church, society research library
Chesterfield, Virginia

Saturdays, May 5 through June 9, 2018, from 10 a.m. to noon. Cost: $25/person; $5 discount for CHSV members. Advance registration is recommended; class is limited to 20 participants.

Chesterfield Historical Society of Virginia will offer a six-week course offering practical, personal help in compiling a family history. This course is designed for beginners or those who need help with paper management. Learn how to organize what you have, add to it in the easiest manner, document family tales, and find your family in the census records.
