1. Henricus Educator Open House – Chester – April 19

Henricus Historical Park
Chester, Virginia

Thursday, April 19, 2018, from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. This is a free event open to all public, private, or homeschool educators and their immediate family members. Pre-registration is recommended.

This family-friendly event will include tours of the site, featuring costumed interpreters; meeting the reptiles and amphibians from Rockwood Nature Center; discussions on the new STEM offerings, PBL projects available to schools, and Summer Teach Workshops; light refreshments; make and take activities for kids; and raffle drawings for educational items from the gift shop.

2. Gaithersburg Book Festival – Gaithersburg, MD – May 19

Saturday, May 19, 2018, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Cost: This is a free, family event.

The Gaithersburg Book Festival is an annual celebration of great books and great writing. The festival will feature more than 100 best-selling and award-winning authors who will participate in talks, panel discussions, and book signings throughout the day. Authors will include Alice McDermott, Elliot Ackerman, Paul Goldberg, John Feinstein, Denise Fleming, Phyllis Reynolds Naylor, and James Swanson, among many others.

Other festival highlights include exhibiting authors, a Children’s Village, literary exhibitors, the Brew & Vine Cafe featuring live entertainment, used and new book sales, and free interactive, hands-on writing workshops on a variety of topics.

Admission, parking, and accessible shuttle buses from Shady Grove Metro and Lakeforest Mall are free.

3. Chesterfield Library Children’s Activities – Chesterfield County – Ongoing

Chesterfield Library is offering a variety of events, activities, and classes for students ages five and older. Registration is required and will remain open until all available slots are filled, although most classes fill up quickly. Activities include author visits, acoustic concerts, storytimes, bicycle maintenance, preschool science labs, Minecraft art, rocketry, chess clubs, and more.
