Tuesday, September 19, 2017, from 9 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. Cost: This is a free, family event. Half-hour concerts will be performed at 45-minute intervals; families may attend as many as they like. These relaxed and casual performances featuring the Richmond Symphony Strings, Woodwind Quintet, Brass Quintet, and more, are appropriate for preschool and school age children.

2.2 Homeschool Family Indoor Rock Climbing Class – Midlothian – Registration Deadline Is September 22

Peak Experiences Indoor Rock Climbing Gym
Midlothian, VA

Fridays, September 29, 2016 through December 15, 2017, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: $150/month for one parent and two children (ages five and older); $25/each additional participant; and $25/extra for climbers under age eight. A membership option for a parent and one child is also available. Monthly fee includes full gym membership with two hours of personalized class instruction per week, the right to climb outside of class time, complimentary gear during class hours, and a 10% discount at the gear shop. Registration deadline is September 22.

Join other homeschool families and learn the fun and challenging sport of indoor rock climbing. Rock climbing builds fitness, confidence, problem-solving skills, and strong families. This is a family class for both parents and children. Parents are expected to participate.

Join Sia Knight, the College Savvy Coach, for a working session in which students will have the opportunity to get started on their college applications with guided lessons on smart college selection, college application completion, essay writing, and more.

During this session, students will set up accounts for Coalition Application, Common Application, and Common Black Application, and complete a student resume.

2.4 The Barber of Seville – Williamsburg – Multiple Dates in October

Kimball Theater
Williamsburg, Virginia

October 20, 2017, at 8 p.m.; October 22 at 2 p.m.; October 24 at 7 p.m. Cost: $15/student (K-12 and college); $45/adult. Groups of 10 or more people receive a discount of $5 per ticket. A dress rehearsal will also be held on October 18 at 11 a.m. and attendance is free for K-12 students and their chaperones. Seats must be reserved in advance in order to attend the dress rehearsal.

Rossini’s The Barber of Seville is a comic opera based on the play Le Barbier de Séville by Pierre Beaumarchais. This beautiful and well-loved opera consistently ranks among the top five most performed operas in the world. Opera in Williamsburg’s performances will be led by conductor Jorge Parodi and feature a world-class cast and a 10-member orchestra.

2.5 Race to 120 Scholarship Opportunities – Various CLT Testing Sites – Registration Deadline Is November 7

The upcoming Classical Learning Test (CLT) on November 11, 2017, will be the final opportunity for the “Race to 120” Scholarship. Students earning a perfect score of 120 will earn a four-year, full tuition, room and board scholarship to any CLT-partnered college. (Students enrolling at a non-CLT-partnered college will be awarded $10,000 per year for four years.)

In addition to the “Race to 120” Scholarship, the CLT is also offering prizes to the three top-scoring students with scores under 120.
