Mystery Speaker #2 – How Did You Do?

The mystery speaker for this week is Jeff Myers, president of Summit Ministries and author of many books and video courses, including Of Knights and Fair Maidens, From Playpen to Podium, Secrets of Great Communicators, Secrets of World Changers, Secrets of Everyday Leaders, Handoff, and, most recently, Cultivate: Forming the Emerging Generation through Life-on-Life Mentoring (check out the Summit Ministries website here to learn more). DON’T GIVE UP

The Contest is Extended

We’re having so much fun, we’re extending the contest one more week, giving YOU one more chance to win a full, family registration to the 30th Annual Homeschool Convention in June.

The LAST mystery speaker is an extra-special guest we know will make the 30th Annual Homeschool Convention an incredible event for the whole family! So stay tuned–you won’t want to miss this one!

AND THERE IS MORE!

We have a lot of GREAT speakers planned this year, and we’re not going to make you guess every one! Here is a quick peek at two speakers we’re thrilled to announce.

Amanda Bennett was unable to attend last year due to unavoidable circumstances, and we–along with many convention attendees–really missed her. So we are excited to tell you she is coming in 2013! Amanda is a favorite homeschool speaker and author (with more than 90 books under her belt!), whose humor and candor will both encourage you and provide practical help. Be sure to visit her website at www.unitstudy.com! Workshop information will be coming soon.

 Diane Craft

Is Your Child Struggling?

Help is on the way! If you missed her seminar a few weeks ago, don’t worry–Diane Craft is coming back to Virginia in June! With more than 35 years experience teaching children who are struggling because of a learning “glitch” (otherwise known as a learning disability), Dianne is the “go-to” person when you’re feeling overwhelmed by your child’s problems. Visit her website for more information, and don’t miss her at the convention!

Time is Running Out

Still undecided about the Leadership Conference on November 16-17? I don’t want you to miss this important opportunity! Here’s a sneak peek of some of the questions Pastor Doug Bartsch will cover:

  • How do you structure and place people in your organization?
  • How do you fill organizational holes?
  • How do you have effective meetings?
  • What do you do if someone can’t handle the workload?
  • And how do you evaluate your current reality?

Understanding the answers to these important questions will strengthen your leadership skills! Pastor Doug Bartsch’s presentation–based on leadership experience in the business world and in the church–will give you practical ways to carry out God’s vision in your homeschool group.

It’s not too late to register! Click here!

GETTING READY TO CELEBRATE 30 YEARS–1983-2013

Tell Us YOUR Story

Year after year, convention attendees say that a friend’s testimony brought them to the convention. We would love to hear your story as we prepare to celebrate 30 years of service to the homeschooling families of Virginia.

How has HEAV changed or helped your homeschooling journey?

How has the annual convention made a difference for you and your family?

As we celebrate this wonderful milestone, we would love to put the spotlight on you–the homeschool families of Virginia–and allow your experience to bless fellow home educators.

Take time to share your story with us, and we may select it to be featured in our publications. Please submit your stories to Christie Russell at publicity@heav.org by November 30.

4) Parting Thought – Bad Jokes for November

Why did the police arrest the turkey? They suspected it of fowl play.

Why do turkeys always go, “gobble, gobble”? Because they never learned good table manners!

What sound does a space turkey make? Hubble, hubble, hubble.

If the Pilgrims were alive today, what would they be most famous for?

Their ages!

- As seen on the Internet–with apologies from your editor–but they will make the kids laugh.

5) Worth Repeating

“Let the American youth never forget, that they possess a noble inheritance, bought by the toils, and sufferings, and blood of their ancestors; and capacity, if wisely improved, and faithfully guarded, of transmitting to their latest posterity all the substantial blessings of life, the peaceful enjoyment of liberty, property, religion, and independence.”

-Joseph Story (1779-1845), in Commentaries on the Constitution, 1833. Story was a founder of Harvard Law School who was appointed to the United States Supreme Court (1811-1845) by James Madison. Story was also a poet.
