High School at Home: Yes, You Can Do It!Yvonne Bunn

Richmond, Thursday, May 10, 2012

Do you wonder what subjects to include during the high school years? How to teach higher level courses like chemistry labs or calculus? How to develop a transcript, assign credits, and compute a GPA?!? Are you ready for AP courses, PSATs, SATs, and ACTs? And what about sports and extracurricular activities? Yes, it’s a whole new world!

In this seminar, Yvonne Bunn, director of homeschool support for Home Educators Association of Virginia, will cover these topics and more. Having graduated three homeschooled high schoolers and dealt regularly with college admissions officers through her work with HEAV, Yvonne will clarify important high school questions and share practical ways to implement an effective high school program.

Whether your student plans to go to college, join the military, or enter the workforce, this seminar will help you develop a well-planned high school course of study. You’ll learn where to get help, how to schedule important testing, and how to develop an acceptable transcript. You’ll leave this seminar with confidence to move forward and tools to develop a high school plan that will work for your student.

Teaching high school at home can seem like a daunting task–but the benefits of homeschooling during the high school years far outweigh the challenges!

4) Parting Thought – The Mother’s Hymn

Lord, who ordainest for mankind

Benignant toils and tender cares!

We thank Thee for the ties that bind

The mother to the child she bears.

We thank Thee for the hopes that rise,

Within her heart, as, day by day,

The dawning soul, from those young eyes,

Looks, with a clearer, steadier ray.

And grateful for the blessing given

With that dear infant on her knee,

She trains the eye to look to heaven,

The voice to lisp a prayer to Thee.

Such thanks the blessed Mary gave,

When, from her lap, the Holy Child,

Sent from on high to seek and save

The lost of earth, looked up and smiled.

All-Gracious! grant, to those that bear

A mother’s charge, the strength and light

To lead the steps that own their care

In ways of Love, and Truth, and Right.

By William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878)

5) Worth Repeating

“Education commences at the mother’s knee, and every word spoken within the hearsay of little children tends towards the formation of character.”

- Hosea Ballou (1771-1852), American clergyman and first president of Tufts University.

~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~
6) Verse of the Week
Honour thy father and mother; (which is the first commandment with promise;)

- Ephesians 6:2 (KJV)

  1. I see a lot of interesting posts on your blog. You have to spend a lot of time writing, i know how to save you a lot of time,
there is a tool that creates unique, SEO friendly posts
in couple of minutes, just search in google – k2 unlimited content

  2. The HCG hormone stimulates the hypothalamus gland,
which regulates your metabolism. With the lifestyles that we lead these
days, not only the food we eat, but also the pollution we are surrounded by
and our lack of exercise, makes it necessary to do a regular detox to flush out all those unwanted and dangerous toxins that
build up in our bodies. The HCG diet is a diet plan comprising of the
intake of HCG with a diet plan that was created by ATW
    Simeons almost 60 years ago.

  3. com explains, a gradual wear and tear over time that proper maintenance could
have avoided. Splurge on it and compromise on the remaining remodeling components.
The best way to do this I feel is to use a synergistic blend of plants that help your body produce
    the proper harmonious hormone balance.
