Volunteer in the Children’s Program Today

Play a Game. Share a Craft. Change a LIFE.

Do have a heart to serve? The Children’s Program is a huge blessing to families with young children–and the time you spend with a child can change his life. Adults are needed, but there are also opportunities for teens who are looking to earn:

    • Service-Hour Requirements
    • Boy Scout or Girl Scout Merit Badges
    • Rank Advancement
    • Childcare Experience
    • Citizenship Recognition

All Children’s Program volunteers will receive a t-shirt, lunch on both days, and a Volunteer Service-Hour Certificate.

Find out more information on our website, or e-mail childrensprogram@heav.org.

If you’ve already volunteered for the Children’s Program, and haven’t heard back from us, please let us know! E-mail childrensprogram@heav.org for a quick response.

Workshop Hosts Needed

Are You Graciously Bold to Speak Up When There’s a Problem?

Admit it–you know who you are! Our speakers depend on us–and we depend on you–to keep our recorded workshops distraction free and running smoothly. Volunteer to be a workshop host and help parents know when it’s time to step out–workshop attendees will love you for it! Just choose “Workshop Host” on the volunteer form here, and Ann Harrell, our wonderful workshop host coordinator, will contact you.

ARTICLES & INFORMATION

Article of the Week

The week I didn’t get everything done – Amanda Evans

All is not lost if parts of the lesson plan or the household chores do not get done sometimes. Read the light-hearted comments of a homeschooling mom as she juggles cookie-baking, toddlers, and a busy household. Bet you’ll recognize yourself–and be reassured!

Homeschool Q&A

Q. Does my 15-year-old homeschooler need a work permit before trying to find a summer job? What forms does he need and where does he get them?

4) Parting Thought – Did You Know?

Did you know that deaf babies who are exposed to sign will babble in sign just as hearing babies will use spoken babble to entertain themselves?

Did you know that India and Brazil produce most of the world’s black beans?

Lastly, do you know what the long-tailed dunnart, the quoll, and the sandstone false antechinus are? They are all marsupials created by the same Almighty One who created you. If He is wise enough to create them for His own purposes, don’t you think He has a reason for creating you? Yes, He does! He knows every little, obscure, “insignificant” odd fact like those above, including the number of hairs on your head and the days of your lifespan. You can trust Him and lean on Him as you follow the path to which He has called you.

5) Worth Repeating

“A letter should be regarded not merely as a medium for the communication of intelligence, but also as a work of art.”

- J. Willis Westlake(1830-1912), American educator. He also wrote a textbook on letter-writing. See item 3.5 for a look at a vintage speller he authored.

6) Verse of the Week

The name of the LORD [is] a strong tower: the righteous runneth into it, and is safe.

- Proverbs 18:10 (KJV)
