Volunteers Urgently Needed

It takes a huge team of volunteers to run the convention, and we could use YOUR help in several areas:

UCS – Pre-cashiers don’t need to handle money, but are vitally important to keep things moving along.

Friday Registration – Please help us keep check-in lines moving quickly! Volunteer Thursday or Friday.

Silent Auction – Get in on the ground floor of this brand-new convention event! Plus, you’ll serve in the thick of things, smack in the middle of the Exhibit Hall!

Hospitality Suite – Is food service your niche? Help make our speakers and vendors feel welcome!

Children’s Program – Each volunteer receives a T-shirt, free lunch, and access to the Exhibit Hall after the Children’s Program closes. No need to register for the convention!

Go to the volunteer application to sign up today, and get your “Golden Ticket” to early UCS shopping!

UCS Barcoding Site Closes in 3 weeks!

Did you know your unwanted homeschool items can help make a difference around the world?

If you have homeschool items you no longer need, consider

donating them to a worthy cause. HEAV can connect you with local ministries who will gladly accept your donated items, prepare them for the UCS, and use the profits to fund their global outreach efforts. You’ll bless other homeschoolers while, at the same time, ministering to those in need around the world.

Sell items at the UCS here! Call HEAV at 804-278-9200 or e-mail us at ucs@heav.org for more information.

Finals Are Over…Now What Will You Do?

How about supporting homeschooling families! If you are a college student with a heart to serve, the Children’s Program could use your help. Volunteer one day, or both…lead a game…share a craft. Your talents can be a blessing to many children!

Click here for more information and to volunteer, or e-mail childrensprogram@heav.org.

The Importance of Influence – Jay Younts

We have such a limited time to influence our children (“the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something.”) Jay offers Scriptures and asks questions to help us all evaluate our influence–for when we are not there and our children must stand alone.

4) Parting Thought – Retronyms

Students, take note; these terms, if mastered, will make you sound brilliant to your older relatives:

Asia Minor

hardcover book

live music

pickup truck

silent film (and/or talkies)

land line

whole milk

Why are these terms anachronistic (there’s a vocabulary word for you)? What others can you think of? With what terms, products, or devices have they been replaced? Now let the kids name and draw the invention they would make. Go ahead parents-you, too!

- Inspired by lists seen on the Internet.

5) Worth Repeating

“Your present circumstances don’t determine where you can go; they merely determine where you start.”

- Nido Qubein (1948-present), businessman, author, and motivational speaker; president of High Point University. He is a Christian of Lebanese and Jordanian descent who came to the United States in 1966.

And he said, The LORD [is] my rock, and my fortress, and my deliverer; The God of my rock; in him will I trust: [he is] my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my high tower, and my refuge, my saviour; thou savest me from violence.

- 2 Samuel 22:2-3 (KJV)
