Article of the Week

Giving, Without Giving Up – Monica Heffner

In a world typified by over-scheduling–and the additional demands of homeschooling–how do you find “extra” time to give to others and teach your children to do it too? Mrs. Heffner has practical suggestions to help us give without burning out and to show our children how to share Christ’s love to the lost world.

4) Parting Thought – “How Great Thou Art”

The world lost George Beverly Shea of the Billy Graham Crusades at age 104 this April. See a video on YouTube of him singing his signature hymn when he was nearly 103, and then read the story of how the hymn came to be written.

Have you looked up the history of your favorite hymn? In addition to being a critical part of worship, hymns were especially important in days gone by when many members of the congregation did not read; the music was a powerful tool to teach essential doctrine. Are you passing on these great works to your children?

Some families with perfectly ordinary singing abilities have rewarding ministries singing in nursing homes like groups of carolers. Homeschool groups are welcomed in most hospitals and care homes–and not just near Christmas. Learn some patriotic hymns before July 4th and schedule a visit. Nursing home residents love to see children. You’ll bless God with your heartfelt praise and bless your children with a wonderful opportunity to lift some spirits, both their own and those of the hearers!
