~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ Curriculum Change Goes into Effect The new curriculum description law went into effect July 1, 2012. Any parent who complies with §22.1-254.1 by filing a Notice of Intent or writing a letter to the local superintendent, must file a description of curriculum.
In past years, parents had to supply descriptions that included various elements of the superintendent’s choosing–detailed course descriptions, outlines, textbook titles, methods of instruction, tables of contents, or scope and sequences. Now the description of curriculum is limited to a list of subjects to be studied during the coming year.
HEAV has notified all district superintendents by letter about
HEAV also has an updated Notice of Intent to Provide Home Instruction form available for download here.

~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ARTICLES & INFORMATION Article of the Week Cumbered About – Maribeth Spangenberg As a homeschooling mom of nine, Maribeth discusses her situation. She has her hands full, to say the least, juggling household chores for a large family and lesson management for a crowd. But don’t miss the joyous call of, “Mom, ya gotta come down and see the fort we made.” Don’t miss that last part when you feel stretched to–or beyond–your limits! Read more of this busy mom’s continuous balancing act, so much like the Bible’s account of Mary and Martha.
Homeschool Q&A Q. I’m in a panic! My student scored below the 23rd percentile on one section of a standardized test. What should I do? |

~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ 4) Parting Thought – “What the Fourth of July Means to Me” Let the Fourth of July always be a reminder that here in this land, for the first time, it was decided that man is born with certain God-given rights; that government is only a convenience created and managed by the people, with no powers of its own except those voluntarily granted to it by the people. We sometimes forget that great truth, and we never should. Happy Fourth of July - Ronald Reagan The above excerpt is from an article written by Ronald Reagan for Independence Day 1981. According to aide his aide, Michael Deaver, this piece was among the many speeches and articles–contrary to popular belief–that Reagan wrote himself. Read the whole essay here.
