~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ HOMESCHOOL NEWS AND REMINDERS Overruled in Sweden In June 2009, Annie and Christer Johansson’s son, Dominic, was seized by authorities, who cited as a reason that Dominic was homeschooled. Although a Swedish court had ruled in favor of the Johanssons earlier this year, in December, an appeals court reversed the ruling and terminated their parental rights. This case, which is being appealed again, is a demonstration of what can happen when the importance of the family unit is not respected. Please keep the Johanssons in your thoughts and prayers as their attorneys work for justice. You can read more about the Johansson’s legal troubles here. |

~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ 4) Parting Thought – Religious Freedom Day Is January 16 “Since 1993, the President has annually proclaimed January 16 ‘Religious Freedom Day.’ This commemoration marks the passage on January 16, 1786, of a significant document authored by Thomas Jefferson: the Virginia Statute for Religious Freedom.”
What are you doing to pass on this principle, exercise it, and preserve it? Countries around the world continue to limit those who desire to exercise their Judeo-Christian faith and those who seek to educate their children in line with those beliefs. Don’t let it slip through your hands unnoticed.
~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ 5) Worth Repeating
“Our liberty depends on our education, our laws, and habits . . . it is founded on morals and religion, whose authority reigns in the heart, and on the influence all these produce on public opinion before that opinion governs rulers.” - Fisher Ames (1758-1808), Founding Father from Massachusetts, orator, and Federalist. According to the Foundation for Economic Education, “ his warnings about the ‘dangers to American liberty’” have proven to be prophetic.
