Keeping the Joy in Your Homeschool When Life Is Hard – Jamerrill Stewart

We all struggle in one way or another, whether it shows to those outside the family or not. Regardless of the perceived severity of the situation, homeschooling often seems to give the flexibility we need to weather those storms. The author suggests concrete ways to focus on the joys of the moment rather than on the difficulties. Keep a thankful journal, take a day off, and four more ideas. (Scroll down to see the entire article; it’s short, but spread out.)

4) Parting Thought – Who Knew Farming Was So Much Fun?

The Peterson brothers (Greg, Nathan, and Kendal) are part of a fifth-generation Kansas farm family well known for their initial success with the YouTube hit ”I’m Farming and I Grow It.” This Christian family shows just how much good, clean fun you can have working hard at a dirty job! They have produced several cleverly choreographed parody videos sure to make you smile–and teach you a little about farming at the same time. Take a break and show your city kids what life is like where the food comes from.

5) Worth Repeating

“The deterioration of every government begins with the decay of the principles on which it was founded.”

- Charles-Louis De Secondat (1689-1755), the Baron de La Brède et de Montesquieu.

Montesquieu, who inherited the title from his uncle, was a French political philosopher and a student of geology, biology, and physics. After a lengthy study of the English separation of powers, he wrote the book, On the Spirit of Laws.

For in the time of trouble he shall hide me in his pavilion: in the secret of his tabernacle shall he hide me; he shall set me up upon a rock.
