Gen2Survey–Enter for a Chance to Win an IPad Mini.

Over the past 30 years, many families, at great sacrifice–even at risk of arrest–set out to provide Christ-centered education in an ever-increasingly secular world. According to some research, the second generation of homeschoolers could potentially exceed six million in the next 10 years. But what kind of impact has been made? Will our children homeschool their children? Will they take up the mantle for freedom for which men like Christopher Klicka and Mike Farris have fought over the years? That’s the question that is being addressed with the new Gen2Survey, now available at www.gen2survey.com.

Please consider participating in this 10-20 minute survey. Your answers are completely anonymous but will help the homeschooling leadership sharpen its focus and maximize the effectiveness of state organizations and families in this all-important area of education. Plus, when you complete your survey, you are entered for a chance to win one of three IPad minis!

4) Parting Thought – America’s Top Ten Pies

Take a family poll and see what everyone’s favorite pie is. What do you predict Americans choose? Bake one as a family to celebrate September and the return to lessons. Show the kids how much can be learned using one theme. (brainstorming encouraged) Is the main ingredient native to the U.S.? When and by whom was this type of pie developed? Is it regional? Are there other traditions associated with it (for example, pumpkin and Thanksgiving)? Is there kitchen science you can share or dig up? Can you use math to make more than one pie for a bigger crew? You get the idea. And enjoy your pie!

Now, for the answers; the favorites,in order, are…

1. Apple

2. Pumpkin

3. Chocolate crème

4. Cherry

5. Apple crumb

6. Pecan

7. Lemon meringue

8. Blueberry

9. Key lime

10. Peach

Do you wonder what this has to do with teaching? Apple pie for the teacher, of course!

5) Worth Repeating

“My heart is singing for joy this morning. A miracle has happened! The light of understanding has shone upon my little pupil’s mind, and behold, all things are changed.”

Anne Sullivan (1866-1936), teacher and companion of Helen Keller. Many people do not remember that Miss Sullivan was only partially sighted herself, yet she used her remaining vision–and surely all her talents–to serve others.
