High School at Home: The Path to SuccessRichmond, THIS Thursday, August 23, 2012 Teaching high school at home can seem like a daunting task–but the benefits of homeschooling during the high school years far outweigh the challenges! Do you wonder what subjects to include during the high school years? How to teach higher level courses like chemistry labs or calculus? How to develop a transcript, assign credits, and compute a GPA? Are you ready for AP courses, PSATs, SATs, and ACTs? And what about sports and extracurricular activities? Yes, it’s a whole new world!
In this seminar, Yvonne Bunn, director of homeschool support for Home Educators Association of Virginia, will cover these topics and more. Having graduated three homeschooled high schoolers and dealt regularly with college admissions officers through her work with HEAV, Yvonne will clarify important high school questions and share practical ways to implement an effective high school program. Whether your student plans to go to college, join the military, or enter the workforce, this will help you develop a well-planned high school course of study. You’ll learn where to get help, how to schedule important testing, and how to develop an acceptable transcript. You’ll leave this seminar with confidence to move forward and tools to develop a high school plan that will work for your student.
Homeschool Appreciation Day at Virginia Air & Space Center Your imagination will soar as you enjoy interactive educational programs that will have you construct a futuristic Mars outpost, enjoy an “electrifying” science demonstration, learn about the Mars Science Laboratory mission, and so much more! |

~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ~:~ ARTICLES & INFORMATION Article of the Week Scheduling and the Homeschool Family – Lori Deese Mrs. Deese, a homeschooling mom of four, deals with the decisions all homeschooling families make when dividing their time between academics, appointments, outside lessons and activities–even household chores. She offers practical tips from her own experience and sums it up with the spiritual reminder to, “Consider each of the [activities] in light of what God has in mind for you and your family. Ask Him what He wants you to accomplish today….”
