2.1 Joshua’s Hands Camps – Multiple Locations – Begins June 24

Joshua’s Hands Summer Camps will be held at varied locations in Loudoun County, Virginia, with precise locations to be determined.

QUILTING WORKSHOPS
Waterford, VA

Sunday, June 24, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday, July 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Saturday, August 18, from 10 p.m. to 2 p.m.
Cost: Donate what you are able.

Three dates and three fun projects for ages 10 to adult. All supplies will be provided!

 

QUILTING CAMP
Waterford, VA

Monday through Friday, June 25 through 29, from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. each day. Cost: Donate what you are able.

Learn-to-quilt camp for ages 12 to adult with no experience necessary. All supplies will be provided! This would be a great mother-daughter activity!

 

“VALIANT WARRIOR” QUILTING EVENTS
Western Loudoun County

Friday through Sunday, August 3 through 5, and August 10 through 12. Friday times are 4 p.m. to 9 p.m., Saturday times are from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., and Sunday times are from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m.; possible weekday times are to be determined. Free and open to anyone who wishes to help. All materials will be provided and no experience is necessary!

The group’s goal is to provide handmade quilts for servicemen and servicewomen wounded while serving our country. Come, share the joy of quilting and working together in a mentoring environment!

CLOGGING CAMPS
Waterford, VA

Novice Camp: Monday through Friday, July 16 through 20, from 9 a.m. to noon (bring lunch and stay as late as 1 p.m.) Cost: $50/clogger (ages eight to adult); no experience needed.

Experienced Camp: Monday through Friday, July 30 through August 3, from 9 a.m. to noon (bring lunch and stay as late as 1 p.m.) Cost: $50/clogger (ages eight to adult); free for members of Blue Ridge Thunder Cloggers.

These camps will start with basic Appalachian dancing and progress to clogging routines. Experienced dancers will not start with the basics, but will be taught with their level of experience in mind. Needed details can be found on the website or by contacting info@BRTC.us.

OH SAY CAN YOU SEE
Wednesday, July 4, 2012, from noon to 3 p.m. Cost: $7/adult; $6/student; $5/senior or child; infants and toddlers are free. A guided tour is included. Call to preregister, or pay at the gate.
Enjoy yourself and learn with fun facts, games, and political trivia for Independence Day. What does the Declaration of Independence actually say? Who were the signers who participated in this act of treason? You will be surprised by what you discover about the past and how it has shaped our lives.

 

DAIRY DAYS
Friday, July 6 and 20, from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. Cost: $5/person (ages five years and up); tour cost is separate. Ice cream and butter will be made at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Reservations are suggested.

Churn butter, crank ice cream, and play historic games for a taste of 18th-century life.

 

LITTLE HANDS-ON HISTORY
Wednesday, July 11 (Code 381 382 7201), July 18 (Code 381 382 7202), and July 25 (Code 381 382 7203), from 11 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. Cost: $6/ages four through six.

Enjoy stories and crafts that make history fun. There will be a different activity offered at each of these outdoor sessions.

 

WORLD WAR II LIVING HISTORY
Saturday, July 14, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Sunday, July 15, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Cost: $8/adult; $6/senior or child; free for veterans and active duty military. A house tour is included.
Travel back to the 1940s as Sully hosts Allied and Axis reenactors for a weekend of demonstrations and memories.

 

97th REGIMENTAL STRING BAND CONCERT
Sunday, July 22, at 7:30 p.m. Cost: $10/seat. Call 703-437-1794 for reservations.
Enjoy music played just as it was 150 years ago when it brought comfort and cheer to soldiers and the folks at home. This Civil War 150th program is co-sponsored by the Sully Foundation, Ltd. and the Friends of Frying Pan Farm Park.

 

A DAY IN THE LIFE OF QUEEN ELIZABETH II
Sunday, July 29, from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Cost: $25; reservations are required.
Queen Elizabeth II lives in splendid palaces and has hundreds of servants, but how does she spend a regular day at Buckingham Palace? Get a glimpse into her daily life and rigorous schedule while enjoying summer tea-time refreshments.

 

THE HOME-GROWN MEDICINE CHEST
Saturday, August 11, at 1 p.m., 2 p.m., or 3 p.m. Cost: $7/adult; $6/student; $5/senior or child. This event replaces the regular house tour.
Medical care 200 years ago was different from today. Tour Sully’s garden, 18th-century kitchen, and house to learn about the preparation and use of home remedies.

Federal and Confederate troops will recreate Civil War daily life and hold skirmishes each day. Enjoy live music and see 1860s fashions.
