2.1 Patriot Academy – Texas – Best Price by May 15

Austin, Texas

Students are housed in an Austin hotel within walking distance of the Texas State Capitol. All training is held at the Capitol.

July 30 through August 4, 2012. Cost: $900 (tuition must be completely paid and postmarked by May 15); $995 late registration fee (final tuition payment must be made by July 1). Prices include all meals, lodging, and materials; limited partial scholarships are available. Open to students 16 to 25 years old; 15-year-olds may be allowed in special circumstances. There is now an adult track and alumni are welcome. There are only 40 seats remaining at the time of this writing. Requests for scholarships or age exceptions are reviewed on an individual basis.

WallBuilders and the Torch of Freedom Foundation sponsor the Patriot Academy, a five-day political training camp held each summer in Austin, Texas. Students experience the political process from the inside out as they file legislation, debate bills, campaign for office, and pass laws. In addition, students are trained in media skills, public speaking, leadership, today’s issues, and America’s heritage, all from a biblical worldview. Conservative leaders from all areas of the political field mentor students through the process, sharing their experience and wisdom. To our knowledge, Patriot Academy is the most realistic week-long conservative political training available to students today.

2.2 Project Historic Runway: Tea and Fashion Show – Isle of Wight – Register by May 18

Boykin’s Tavern
17130 Monument Circle
Isle of Wight, VA

Sunday, May 20, 2012, from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. Multiple Dates. Cost: $15/person; includes tea and snacks. Register by 4 p.m., Friday, May 18. The tavern museum is open March through December, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesday through Saturday.

Through the ages, many ladies have come through the doors of Boykin’s Tavern wearing everything from hoop skirts and corsets to hats, high-collared shirts, and dresses with trains. Reminisce as you enjoy a leisurely afternoon of tea and snacks while ladies show off the fashions of different eras. The tavern is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and is the only surviving structure associated with the Isle of Wight Courthouse of 1800. You’ll learn about the building’s architectural details, rare in rural Virginia, and its significant role in both the Revolutionary War and Civil War.

See the website for further information, or contact Isle of Wight County’s Historic Resources Department at jwilliams@isleofwightus.net or 757-357-0115.
