The Passing of a True Homeschool Hero On October 12, 2009, homeschool father, attorney, author, and speaker Chris Klicka
went to be with the Lord. The HEAV board and staff rejoice for him,
even as we grieve the passing of our dear friend and brother in the
Lord.
So many of you have sent sweet notes telling of your
prayers for the Klicka family and of the Lord's grace in your own life
trials--we will send all these notes on to the Klicka family.
For those who would like to encourage the Klicka family either through notes or donations, we've posted contact information on our blog. You may also appreciate viewing this short tribute to Chris, which HSLDA has put together.
Linda Linder, a faithful and long-time HEAV advisory board member, sent this beautiful song
to me this morning. It reminded me of my own mother's passing (N'omi
Orr) and of how I sang this song over and over as my husband drove me
to see my mother before the emergency response team came to take away
her empty shell.
When peace, like a river, attendeth my way,
When sorrows like sea billows roll;
Whatever my lot, Thou has taught me to say,
It is well, it is well, with my soul.
Horatio Spafford
wrote this song as he passed near the watery grave of his four
daughters who died when their ship sank at sea. Then, as now, it is a
beautiful reminder, inspired by the Lord, that we should not sorrow as
those who have no hope. HE is our hope in this life...and the life to
come. Chris would want us to remember this--and so we shall.
But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them
which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no
hope. 1 Thessalonians 4:13
Hoping in Him,

HEAV Sponsored Homeschool Day Another
Great Homeschool Day at the Virginia Air & Space Center!
Last Wednesday, 1,050 people
turned out for the HEAV-co-sponsored Homeschool Day event at the Virginia Air
& Space Center in Hampton! The event was a HUGE success--NASA even had a
film crew filming students doing experiments and participating in a special
space presentation by a NASA scientist. Homeschoolers were eager to answer
questions--and with good answers too! The presenter even commented on the good
quality answers he was getting.
HEAV had a table there and gave
out magazines and handouts. There were lots of opportunities to answer
questions from first-year homeschoolers, which we were delighted to do!
We've put together a short slideshow with pictures from the event. We
hope you enjoy!

4) Parting Thought -
Four
Ways to Enjoy This Day
There are conditions which, if met, will produce
real joy and will allow us to enjoy this day:
1) Be right with God.
2) Forget yourself and live for others.
3) When you cannot rejoice in feelings,
circumstances, or conditions, rejoice in the Lord.
4) Obey the Lord and be faithful to what He has
given you. When we are faithful, again and again, His blessed Spirit will
whisper to your heart, "Well done, good and faithful servant...enter into
the joy of your lord." (Matthew 25:21 [NKJV]).

from a devotion by A.B. Simpson. Read the full version of this brief devotional

5)
Worth Repeating
"It will be of little avail to the people that the laws are made by men
of their own choice if the laws be so voluminous that they cannot be read, or
so incoherent that they cannot be understood."
- James
Madison (1751-1836), American statesman and fourth President of the United
States of America. He is considered to be the "Father of the Constitution"
and "Father
of the Bill of Rights." Read more about him here.

6) Verse of the Week
Let us
therefore come boldly unto the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy, and
find grace to help in time of need.
- Hebrews 4:16 (KJV)
