CONVENTION COUNTDOWN: ONLY 2 DAYS!
At-the-Door Rates REDUCED!
The HEAV Board voted today to lower the
at-the-door
prices to the preregistration rates!
Because this has been such an economically
tough year for so many, the HEAV Board voted
to keep the registration rates the same
at the door. So if you weren't planning on
coming because you missed the preregistration
deadline, please come!
The Board wants to make
it affordable for EVERY family wanting to
attend the convention, and offers a very
liberal scholarship program. We believe it is
VITAL for
families to be at the convention and don't
want the cost
to keep ANYONE away.
We only ask 1) that you
bring a written request when you come to
register, and 2) that you pay whatever you
can afford--whether it is $5 or $35 or
$0--that's it!
We've assembled some of the best, most godly,
practical, and encouraging homeschool
speakers in the country to help teach,
inspire, lift, exhort, challenge, and support
you in your family life and homeschool
endeavors.
Please come and be renewed and
refreshed! I know it sounds like hype, but
over the years, we have heard from countless
families who came to the convention and were
changed through the information and resources
presented--this is a once-a-year opportunity
to be revitalized and encouraged. Please
don't miss it!
We appreciate your prayers for the
convention, and look forward to
seeing you soon!
-Anne Miller, HEAV president

Tell Your Friends - It Makes a Difference!
A recent survey showed that nearly 50% of the
parents
of preschoolers who are coming to the convention
found out about it from a friend. So please
keep telling
your friends!
Promotional materials are available online.
Wondering What to Do Before You Come?
We've posted a list of things you may want to
do before convention on the Blog...if
you like lists, you may want to take a look.
Otherwise, we hope you'll just get in the car
and come! If you have children in the
Children's Program, please fill out the
Children's Program Information Sheet
ahead of time, as this will help keep the
line moving quickly.
Still Undecided?
Here's a list of

It's Not Too Late to Volunteer!
To those of you who have volunteered, thank
you! We
appreciate your help very much. If you
haven't signed
up to volunteer yet, it's not too
late! We could still use
volunteers for the convention in LOTS of
different
areas. Simply contact our volunteer
coordinator via our
Volunteer Checklist. If you do not receive a
confirmation of when you are scheduled to
volunteer
prior to the convention or if you decide to
volunteer at the
door, please just check in at the volunteer
table in the
convention lobby.
Note: All volunteers must be registered for the convention. This includes children and young adults--you cannot bring your children to volunteer unless they are registered.
Help Needed at Taping Tables
Broad Reach Recording needs volunteer helpers at
their taping tables at the convention Friday and
Saturday, June 12 and 13. Training is at 9
a.m. on
Friday morning at the taping tables. This is
a great
opportunity for responsible teens and young
adults to
help out and gain a little experience. Broad
Reach
would like commitments of several hours at a
time,
since they will have to do some training.
Half-day
blocks would be ideal. Help is needed with
both sales
and production. If interested, contact Mrs.
DeFazio at
VolunteerNow@heav.org.
Volunteers Needed in the Children's
Program
Volunteers 13 and up are needed to help in the
Children's Program at the convention as team
leaders, helpers, and runners. For more
information
or to volunteer, go to the
CCI website.
Volunteers Needed at Graduation
We're looking for able-bodied men who would be
willing to put on suits and ties and help
with crowd
control on Saturday, June 13, 2009, before the
graduation ceremony. There are always a lot
of people
(graduates' families and friends) wandering
the halls
during this time that would definitely
appreciate a
friendly face and someone to point them in
the correct
direction. If you are willing to serve in
this way, please
contact Wendy Fish at
graduation@heav.org or 804-278-9200.

- It takes you three trips to the car to
bring in all the
supplies for the lessons you teach at the local
homeschool co-op.
- Your kids are careful about asking you simple
questions, because they don't want to check
out a
book at the library on the topic, write a
book report, do
a lap book, build a diorama, and finally, give a
presentation to the rest of the kids about
the answer.
- When you're asked about homeschooling, you
hand
out a tri-fold color brochure (designed and
printed as
a homeschool project) detailing all the positive
statistics and studies supporting homeschooling.

"All education is indoctrination into a religious
worldview, whether it be the true religion of
Christianity, or any of the myriad false religions
invented by men. All education is undergirded by
presuppositions about the origin of the universe, the
origin of man, the purpose of man, ethics governing
relationships between men, and the continuing
existence of the universe in an orderly and predictable
manner. It is an inescapable fact that all of these
basic assumptions are fundamentally religious.
Therefore we must view the schoolroom as the place
where children are indoctrinated into the religion of
their society. The school is, in effect, a temple. The
question which Christians in twentieth century
America are late in asking is this: 'Into what religion
do the government schools educate our
children?'"
- David Sant, "The Religious Nature of Education,"
Patriarch Magazine.
For I the Lord, your God, will hold your right hand,
saying to you, fear not; I will help you.
- Isaiah 41:13 (KJV)
