Please Pray for Jessica Hulcy
Jessica Hulcy, long-time homeschool encourager,
speaker, and author, was in a severe car
accident last
week. Please keep her and her family in your
prayers.
You can view more details and find out how
she is
doing on Caring Bridge.
As you may already know, Jessica was
scheduled to
do several workshops at the HEAV convention.
Inge
Cannon graciously offered to
fill in these workshops; Jessica's
workshops on curriculum, mentoring teens, and
discovery learning will be replaced with similar
workshops by Inge. Florence Feldman,
HEAV's
beloved
convention director and a professional
organizer with more than 25 years experience,
will be offering a
workshop titled "The Organized Child" in
place of Jessica's organization workshop.
Look on the website later this week for the
new descriptions and titles.

Hear from Homeschool Graduates...
and Learn from Experienced Parents!
Ever wanted to ask a homeschool graduate
something? Well, now you can! In Homeschooling: Educating for
Eternity, one of this year's convention
workshops, you'll get an opportunity to ask
questions
of five homeschool graduates from the Boyer
family
and listen as they share why they're glad
they were
taught at home--and why they intend to
homeschool
their own children! You'll also get to hear
from the
parents--homeschool authors Rick and Marilyn
Boyer
will share the philosophy that has inspired them
through 29 years of home education with their 14
children. Don't miss this powerful session!

Starting
a Business?

home into a profit center? This year's Entrepreneur
Learning Track will
help you get started on the right foot.
Speakers include
Wade Myers, Harvard MBA and founder of New
Venture Lab, and Joel Salatin, third
generation owner
of the successful Polyface Farm in Shenandoah
Valley. This is a rare opportunity to learn from
entrepreneurial experts!
Volunteers Needed in the Children's
Program
Volunteers 13 and up are needed to help in the
Children's Program at the convention as team
leaders, helpers, and runners. For more
information
or to volunteer, go to the
CCI website.
Convention Help
We need experienced parents to take a
two-hour shift
at the HEAV tables, strong young men to help
lift
books and set up tables in the UCS on Thursday
afternoon, speaker hosts and hostesses, and more.
Just fill out our Volunteer Checklist letting us know when you are available and where you'd like to serve, and someone will get back with you shortly. Remember, volunteers shop first in the Used Curriculum Sale (UCS).
Volunteers Needed at Graduation
We're looking for able-bodied men who would be
willing to put on suits and ties and help
with crowd
control on Saturday, June 13, 2009, before the
graduation ceremony. There are always a lot
of people
(graduates' families and friends) wandering
the halls
during this time that would definitely
appreciate a
friendly face and someone to point them in
the correct
direction. If you are willing to serve in
this way, please
contact Wendy Fish at
graduation@heav.org or 804-278-9200.
Bring Your Golden Gift Certificates and
Box Tops
to Convention!
Attention Ukrop customers! Turn your
Ukrop
Golden Gift certificate into support for
Virginia
homeschoolers by sending it in to the HEAV
office
(2248 G Dabney Road, Richmond, VA 23230)...or
by bringing it with you to convention and
giving it to HEAV
at registration!
New this year! There will be boxes at the convention for Box Top labels. Although tiny, Box Top labels can support homeschooling in a BIG way! So...before you toss that next food box or can, check to see if it has a Box Top label. Then collect the labels, trim them neatly, rubber band them in sets of 50, put them in a zip lock bag along with a completed form, and bring them with you to turn in at the convention! See www.heav.org/events/boxtops for more details.
